Non-Surgical Body Contouring: ONDA PRO

10 August 2026

Non-surgical body contouring is not weight loss and it is not a smaller version of surgery. An honest look at how ONDA PRO's microwave approach differs from cooling and ultrasound, why results are modest and gradual, and why candidacy matters more than the machine.

Body contouring is one of the easiest categories in aesthetics to oversell, so it is worth being blunt at the start. Non-surgical body contouring is not weight loss. It is also not a gentler version of surgery. It is a way of changing the shape of a small, defined area on a body whose weight is already stable. If the goal is to weigh less, no device does that. If the goal is what liposuction achieves, only liposuction achieves it. Everything below assumes those two sentences have been read rather than skimmed.

What non-surgical contouring is actually for is the pocket that stays put — the flank, the lower abdomen, the inner thigh, the area under the chin — in someone who is otherwise where they want to be. The unit of measurement is shape, not the number on the scale, and the change arrives over weeks rather than on the way out of the treatment room. It can also be undone. Gaining weight after a course of treatment will override anything a device did, because the remaining fat cells in the area are still perfectly capable of storing more.

The three main energy approaches go about the problem differently. Cooling-based systems chill drawn-in tissue until fat cells are damaged by the cold, which means the area has to be pinchable enough to fit an applicator. Focused ultrasound uses mechanical and thermal energy delivered to a set depth. Radiofrequency heats tissue by resistance, and because it is readily absorbed by water-rich tissue, it tends to be most at home in the dermis — which is why radiofrequency devices are usually discussed in terms of skin quality rather than fat volume.

ONDA PRO uses microwave energy, and the distinction it is built around is absorption. Microwaves at the frequency the device uses are designed to be taken up preferentially by fat, which is a low-water tissue, rather than being spent in the skin on the way through. The handpiece cools the surface while the energy works below it. In practice a session feels warm and deep rather than cold or sharp, there is no anaesthesia, and most people carry on with their day afterwards. Some warmth, tenderness or pinkness in the area afterwards is ordinary; your practitioner will tell you what to expect for the specific zone being treated. Because the energy also puts heat through the dermal layer, ONDA is frequently discussed alongside skin texture and the dimpled appearance of cellulite, not only fat.

At Minori, ONDA PRO is booked by area rather than as one generic session — there are six variants across face and body — because the handpiece, the timing and the approach for a jawline are not the approach for a flank.

A word on regulatory language, since it appears everywhere in this category. Aesthetic devices in the United States are *cleared* through the FDA's 510(k) route. That is a statement that a device is substantially equivalent to one already on the market. It is not a promise about your result, and any clinic that presents it as one is telling you something the paperwork does not say.

Candidacy matters more than the technology, and this is the part most marketing skips. The people who do best have a stable weight, a localised pocket they can pinch, reasonable skin quality and an expectation of subtle change. The people who do worst are hoping for weight loss, or have a firm abdomen that cannot be pinched — that is usually visceral fat sitting around the organs, which no external device reaches — or are really bothered by loose skin rather than volume. Medical history, pregnancy, breastfeeding and certain implanted devices also come into it. Deciding which of these you are is the entire purpose of a consultation, and a consultation that never says no is not a consultation.

Loose skin is a separate question with separate answers. Skin laxity is addressed with devices aimed at collagen and the dermis, such as Morpheus8 or Sofwave, and even then within limits — neither is a facelift, and neither restores a skin envelope that has been substantially stretched. Microcoring, which people searching in New York often encounter alongside these terms, is a different thing again: a technique that removes tiny cores of skin tissue to address laxity. It is a skin-removal approach, not a fat treatment, and Minori does not offer it.

The same clarity applies to the massage side of the menu. The Deep Body Treatment and lymphatic drainage massage are recovery and circulation treatments. Drainage can genuinely help fluid retention and puffiness, which is a real concern that is regularly mistaken for fat, and it is a reasonable companion to a course of treatment. It does not reduce fat, and we will not describe it as though it does.

If you do proceed, judge it honestly. Take photographs at the same angle, distance and lighting before you start, measure at a marked landmark rather than wherever the tape lands, and look again several weeks later. How clothing sits is a more reliable signal than the mirror on a given morning. Results vary between people, sometimes considerably, and whether any of this suits you is decided at a consultation rather than in an article.
